I am licensed to practice medicine in the Province of Quebec. I practice as a certified cardiologist (CSPQ, FRCPC). I am also certified in cardiology, respiratory medicine, occupational medicine, aerospace medicine in France, and in Insurance Medicine in Canada. I am diplomate of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine since 1995, having passed with success the examination of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine mortality course. I am a US Certified Medical Examiner, having passed with success the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners examination, in February 2011.

I have been a consultant and Medical Director for different Insurance Companies: Quebec and Ontario Blue Cross since 1985 and Optimum Re Insurance Company (2002-2018) and Partner Re (2019-2021). I have been a medical consultant for many other Insurance Companies during the last twenty-eight years. During these 28 years, I have been reviewing daily, at least 30 applications for life insurance, giving advice on the mortality and life expectancy associated with the medical conditions of the applicant. I have been performing life expectancy calculations for litigation purposes on topics as diverse as traumatology, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, morbid obesity, diabetes, different cardiac pathologies, sudden death, stroke, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, liver cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, and all kinds of cancers, leukemias and lymphomas.

 

Professor of Medicine with l’Université de Montréal

I am a Full Professor of Medicine with l’Université de Montréal since 2003. In 1999, I created the program of Insurance Medicine and Medicolegal Expertise in Health Sciences, and from 1999 to 2018, I have been director of this program. In this capacity, I have developed a 6 semester University Post-Graduate level curriculum, teaching both in French and in English health professionals nationally and internationally.

 With my University team, Dr. Abdel Naslafkih, MD, MSc, PhD, and Dr. Pierre Vachon, MPH, PhD, JD, I have performed in 12 years over 8,000 actuarial analyses of scientific publications regarding mortality of over 400 medical conditions. My own actuarial research has often been enriched by discussions with my team. 

 

Associations related to life expectancy

I am past-president (2011-2013) of CSME, the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators, and I am past-president (2010-2012) of AIDC, the world association of medical experts. In addition of conducting research in life expectancy, I supervise master and PhD students conducting research in this area. I have published and given lectures nationally and internationally on Life Expectancy in a variety of conditions.
